Wake Up!
I think most people are now aware of the dire straits the earth is in at the moment regarding global warming and climate change. However, there are a lot of governments in this world who are still burying their heads in the sand and hoping these issues won’t affect their respective countries. Shit, wake up!. And, that was just the theme of an excellent letter written to the Jakarta Post the other day.
As the world gets just a wee bit hotter the experts argue that we, the human race, are the main cause of climate change, and just maybe they are right. Others argue that without global dimming we are doomed, and yet that sounds like the opposite of global warming which is also going to destroy our very existence.
Not being anywhere near an expert I suppose we must listen to these arguments, otherwise it’s all over for the human race. With such an impending scenario you would think, as intelligent human beings, we would take this all on board and do everything within our power to at least delay what may in fact be the inevitable.
But alas no, as there is one thing on this planet which is greater than life itself — money. If we look back on our amazing history you can see without much effort how stupid we have been in the past, but now, with all our wonderful advancements, we have become even more ridiculous because of greed, pointless ideologies and religions that continually try to throw us backward.
What on earth happened to common sense and our undying ability to survive? Those looking down on the planet, if indeed there is anyone who could tolerate this stupidity for very long, must indeed be thinking that our very existence is based on a policy of self-destruct.
We worry about the most incredible things imaginable when looming up, and right under our noses is a force so strong it will either fry us to death, swamp us with endless misery or spread disease over this planet that will choke the living daylights out of our struggling lungs.
Fortunately I won’t be here to see it, but every child walking this earth stands a very good chance of getting a close-up of what it is like to die in utter misery. As students finish their exams this year (cheating or not is of no relevance), those in power (and that is not particularly governments, who to be honest do not really represent the people) will be sitting back looking for an opportunity to make even more money from an impending catastrophe. Don’t you wish you were that clever?
