Possible Dutch Cultural Center: Aceh, Sumatra
Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province is considering setting up a Dutch cultural center in a bid to preserve historical sites dating back to the Dutch colonial ruler. “We will try to set up a Dutch cultural center in Aceh in the near future,” Governor Irwandi Yusuf said in a plenary session with the local legislative assembly.
The presence of the cultural center was also important to enhance cooperation between the Netherlands and Aceh, particularly in the cultural field, he said.
“With the presence of the Dutch cultural center in Aceh, I think we will be able to preserve historical sites spreading in a number of districts and municipalities in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province,” he said.
In addition, the presence of the cultural center would also enable the province to retrieve historical artifacts kept in the Netherlands, he said.
