Independence Day Party: Denpasar, Bali
A series of art, cultural and sporting activities will be held in Denpasar to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence, which falls on Aug. 17. The activities will be held as part of a special program called Pasar Rakyat, Semarak Merah Putih, or Folk Fiesta, the Glitter of Red and White.
The party will be held in Puputan Park on Aug. 17 and will run until midnight.
Among scheduled activities are a marching band contest and performances from elementary and high school students from Denpasar. A number of music groups and bands will also perform during the event.
Members of the event’s organizing committee said it was being held primarily to commemorate and remember national heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.
One of the most interesting acts during the event will be a Wayang Cenk Blonk performance presented by famous puppet master Nardayana.
The celebration is expected to draw thousands of spectators.
