Lovilee photograph but it has no face. I am guessing it wore off in old age time.

Mimi, I think you mean ‘worn away with time’. You will find a majority of the ancient statues and artifacts dating from the 10th century have suffered the same fate. By the way, a nice composition Barrie.

Between the parallel Pakrisan and Petanu Rivers, and the villages of Sebatu to the north and Celuk, is located the archeological center of Bali. No less than twenty very interesting and inspiring sites are located area, which I never get tired of visiting. In Pura Kebo Edan (Mad Bull Temple) in Penjeng, lives the above “Penjeng Giant,” and to whom it refers, no one knows exactly. Some people call him Bhima, because of its size. It was restored in 1952, by the Archaeological Service. Having put all the available pieces together, the “Giant” turned out to be a male figure, 3.6 meters high. He is dancing, with its knees bent, legs wide apart. Snakes are curled around its ankles and wrists. It penis is swinging up, from behind a long loin-cloth and the girdle’s fringes of its upper shirt. The penis is pierced with a peg. The dancer is on the top of a human (dead?) body. His face is covered by a purely abstract mask with horns, held in place with ribbons, in the back of its head. Its hair is made up long curls. It is estimated, from East Javanese candis, that this “Giant” most likely dates from around the 1300s.
