Another Major Quake and Tsunami Possible: Sumatra, Indonesia
Indonesia, the world’s largest archipelago, is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
A GeoTimes report has said that another major earthquake and tsunami will strike the western coast of Sumatra sometime in the next few decades, according to researchers studying the region’s history. And the predicted tsunami has a significant chance of hitting densely populated areas.
