Lebaran Time in Bali

Today marks the beginning of Idul Fitri for Muslims in Indonesia. To them I express SELEMAT HARI RAYA IDUL FITRI MOHON MAAAF LAHIR DAN BATIN.

For the last few days in Bali the tell-tale signs of holiday-time has been evident. More and more vehicles from out of town are on the roads and the traffic jams on Jalan Legian have been slowly increasing. This morning the traffic jam was so bad on Jalan Legian it banked up from Bemo Corner way back to Jalan Melantik.

One of the reasons for this is not only the amount of extra vehicles on the road, but also the closure of Jalan Pantai at Bemo corner in an effort to reduce the traffic congestion. Good in theory but not in practice!. The traffic is diverted down to Jalan Bakungsari and onto the junction where Jalan Kartika Plaza met just behind Kuta Square. Result - nightmare!!.

Still, it is great to see so many people in Bali right now albeit the majority being domestic tourists. It is great for the economy of Bali. Wouldn’t it be fabulous if such an amount of tourists from other countries entered Bali in the numbers the domestic tourists have come.

I’d put up a few fotos but it seems there is a gremlin in the system. Another day folks!.
