Giriloyo Cemetery: Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia

It is located at Cengkehan, Wukirsari. Giriloyo cemetery is Islam’s around 17 Masehi (Year, which is started when Jesus was born) inheritance. It is still consecrated by people.

One who is buried in here is Prince Juminah. He is Sultan Agung’s uncle. Formerly, this tomb was prepared for Sultan Agung and his family, but Prince Juminah was buried first. So, it made Sultan Agung postponed his will and took Pajimatan-Imogiri area as his cemetery complex. Giriloyo cemetery complex is divided into three parts: west, east and outside complex. West and east complex is rounded by 1,5 high wall, with 0,80 thickness.

Cemetery Mosque (masyhad)

It is located at Cengkehan, Wukirsari. This mosque is in Giriloyo cemetery complex. The yard is 18 x 9,5 meters. The main room map is foursquare and the wall is made of brick wall. There are 4 columns in the main room. Its floor is made of old green floor tile. The mosque roof is tajug shape. Mihrab is like penampil with the ceiling is like semi circle.

There is pawestren (room for females only) south of main room. There is veranda in front of main room, and in front of the veranda there is 10 x 1.m fishpond. The apparatus in this mosque is bedug (tambour) and kentongan (tool, which is hit when a danger situation is happened), chamber, holy water place and coffin keeping place.

Good place to visit. I have been to a few cemeteries and like just walking around them. My old lady reckons I’m warped!.
