Bakso - Meatballs on the Go: Indonesia
One of the foods with Chinese culinary overtones is bakso, which literally means pork ball in some Chinese dialects. Originating from northern China the pork meatball came rolling down into Southeast Asia and set foot in Indonesia some 20 years ago.

Fighting for the Trust of the Timorese
Up in the hills of Alieu and its sharp bends a truck and two cars stopped — in front, a minibus carrying traders and their cargo had bumped into a motorcycle driven by an old man with a little boy on a Sunday afternoon.

Marriage in Dili: Timor Leste
Beatrice and Christavao got married on Friday and they look forward to living happily ever after. After the ceremony at the Balide Catholic Church here they prepared to leave home for a party, “just a small one, given the circumstances,” said Christavao da Costa Pereira.

Indonesia Closes Border: Timor Leste
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered the temporary closure of the border with East Timor. Mr Yudhoyono is quoted in the Kompas newspaper as saying that besides security reasons, the closure of the border is to prevent the possibility of issues which may worsen the image of Indonesia.
Pramoedya Ananta Toer Dead at 81
Renowned Indonesian author Pramoedya Ananta Toer, who suffered from heart trouble and diabetes, died Sunday, a family member said. He was 81.

UN Report Not Good: Timor Leste
It’s no wonder the UN report on East Timor (now, Timor Leste) claims the people are chained to poverty. They suffered under Dutch rule, then through the years of Soeharto’s Indonesia, and now, they struggle to reap in the benefits of their oil and gas deposits which are sadly being ripped off them by other countries, notably Australia.

Sarah Lery Mboeik - A Woman of Substance
Sarah Lery Mboeik is a woman of substance, a courageous woman who fought for the rights of her country and received an award for her endeavours. She saved many women and children enslaved during the 1999 rioting in East Timor after the initial election there.

Dili: Timor Leste
Dili, also spelt Díli, Dilli or Dilly, is the capital of East Timor. It lies on the northern coast of Timor island, the easternmost of the Lesser Sunda Islands.

East Timorese Language: Timor Leste
The lingua franca and national language of East Timor is Tetum, which is a Malayo-Polynesian language influenced by Portuguese, with which it has equal status as an official language.
