Flame of Peace at ‘Homa Yadnya’: Jimbaran, Bali

Thousands of people from all over the globe gathered at dawn on April 14 at Jimbaran’s Garuda Wisnu Kencana cultural park (GWK) to witness the lighting of a sacred flame which, according to Hindu beliefs, is said to create harmony and peace among mankind. The celebration was presented by the Indonesian chapter of The Art of Living Foundation, an international spiritual awareness and social welfare organization founded by renowned humanitarian His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar from India, who had traveled to Bali to lead the day’s events. It appears that too many Indonesian farmers and the ilk have been watching Lara Cross and Tomb Raider recently. There have been two important archaeological finds in Central and West Java – both were looted.

Metakaruna in Semarang: Central Java, Indonesia

Andre Pratama pulled up in front of the headquarters of the 4th military regional command of Diponegoro on Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan, Semarang, last week when, on his way from Solo to Jakarta, he decided to take a brief rest after noting an imposing building on the right side of the road about five kilometers before entering Semarang.

Mount Merapi has been the focus of much media attention recently because of its heightened volcanic activity.
Much has been published on the volume of material contained in the lava dome, the appearance of wedhus gembel (literally “shaggy goats”) or hot ash clouds, the evacuation of villagers and also about the myths surrounding the mountain — the legends believed by the people living in villages on Merapi’s slopes.

Loro Jonggrang: Central Java, Indonesia

Loro Jonggrang temple, more commonly known as Candi Prambanan after its location in the border area between the provinces of Yogyakarta and Central Java, is a group of Hindu temples built by the Sanjaya dynasty in the 9th-century Java.

Brahma Temple Damaged by Earthquake: Central Java, Indonesia

The Brahma temple, one of the ancient shrines in the Prambanan compound in Klaten, Central Java, has been seriously damaged by the earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale which struck Yogyakarta city and environs early Saturday morning.

Mataram Kingdom Ruins: Central Java, Indonesia

Kotagede, which is often called Sargede, is located more or less five kilometers South West of Yogyakarta. In this town, tourists can visit Kings of Mataram, likes Sutowijoyo or Ngabei Loring Pasar, Mataram Kingdom establisher who was then known as Panembahan Senopati.
