Indonesia’s Pluralism Skeptics

Many people say that Indonesia is a plural nation with a Muslim majority. Hardly anyone would deny the current plurality of ethnicity, languages, and religions in Indonesia. A recent interfaith group said they viewed pluralism as the nation’s social capital, which should be revitalized and developed, thereby helping the Republic of Indonesia grow strong and prosper.

diving.jpg Coral reef destruction in South Sulawesi has reached an alarming heights and today poses a real threat to the ongoing livelihoods of regional fishermen. With some 70 per cent of the reefs destroyed, the affect has also seen enormous losses to the state via the fishery sector.

Tojo Una-Una Relies on Togean Islands: Central Sulawesi

Strategically located in the heart of Tomini Bay, Tojo Una-Una regency in Central Sulawesi is rich in marine and tourism potential. In this regency, which was first established on Dec. 18, 2003, one can find at least 56 large and small islands known as the Togean Islands, which stretch for some 90 kilometers.

Sweet Puddings: Indonesia

In the past, sweet puddings were not a part of traditional menus in Indonesia. The main course was generally the last served. In Java, the tumpeng selamat, a rice cone dish served at birthdays and weddings, is an example of a traditional meal still being served.

Togean Islanders Sustain Marine Life: Central Sulawesi

Set like emeralds in the turquoise waters off the coast of Central Sulawesi, the Togean Islands are home to over 500 types of coral, 600 reef fish species and an estimated 500 mollusk. It is one of the richest reef areas in the country.

The straps of my backpack cut into my shoulders and my legs ached as I struggled up the last steep rise through the pine trees.
Ahead of me lay another two days of walking along 50 kilometers of mountain track, and I began to wonder if this was a good idea. As the ground levelled and a cooling breeze ran in, a heartening view opened in both directions.
