Giant Flower Broken: Cibodas Botanical Gardens, West Java

Heavy rain and strong winds broke Thursday the stem of a giant Amorphopallus titanium flower, feared to have it to bloom imperfectly at the Cibodas Botanical Gardens in Cianjur.

Groups Urges Saving History Sites: Jakarta, West Java

Organizations promoting the appreciation of Jakarta’s historic buildings are experiencing a rise in popularity, attracting Jakartans who want to know more about the city’s history. However, much of the growth has been focused on the commercialization of historical sites without adequate advocacy for their preservation, antiquity enthusiast and journalist Pradaningrum Mijarto said.

Red-Light District to be Closed: Bandung, West Java

I find red-light districts fascinating even though I have never had the desire to utilise the services of the inhabitants. The one in Bandung is ‘culturally interesting’ but the Bandung municipality will permanently close down the oldest red-light district in the city to make way for a proposed Islamic center, putting more than 1,000 people out of work in the process.

Heritage Hope: Jakarta, West Java

In demolishing a decades-old building and replacing it with a new one, what exactly is it that we are taking away?. Responses to this question revealed that the older homes of Kwitang and Kebon Kacang, both in Central Jakarta, are their owners joy. And, people’s pride in their homes is many times more effective than any conservation law.

Kota Tua to be Heritage Area: West Jakarta

The city administration announced its plan to Designate Kota Tua, or Old Town, in West Jakarta as a heritage area. Jakarta Governor Sutiyoso said Kota Tua boasted unique landmarks and its rejuvenation would draw tourists to the city

Tebet ‘Bohemia’: South Jakarta

The Cyber Indonesian Central Bank Museum: West Jakarta

There are literally scores of museums to visit when you visit Jakarta, and if you are like me, I tend to visit most of them at least a few times. I wasn’t aware, however, that there was a Central Bank museum. I only came across it by chance when I was researching on the net the other night.

For those who have been to Bogor then you know of its beautiful scenery and cool climate, and friendly people. It has the greatest and elaborate Botanical Gardens in Indonesia which have a myriad of species of trees and plants.

The city of Jakarta is a vibrant city that almost never sleeps and the nightlife is probably the best in Indonesia. More importantly, the restaurant scene is superb with a massive choice of establishments to choose from.
