Indonesia in Focus
Image of the Day: Fruit Seller, Yogyakarta, Central Java
I enjoy walking around street markets early in the morning, buying the food and fruit that I need for the week, but, some of the cheapest [and best in some cases] can be purchased from those vendors selling their produce in the nearby streets.
Image of the Day: Bas Reliefs,Borobudur, Central Java
When in Yogyakarta it is a must to visit the magnificent Borobudur Temple Complex - the second largest Bhuddist monument in South-East Asia.
Image of the Day: Jatiluwih, Bali
When my wife Candika and I get over to Bali we more often than not visit Jatiluwih, the heritage listed and pristine area. Its terraced paddy fields are spectacular and for the best view, have a drink at the Jatiluwih Cafe.
Image of the Day: Tirtagganga, Bali
Located not far from Amlapura in East Bali are the water gardens of Tirtagganga, without a doubt one of the most peaceful places on the island.
Image of the Day: Women’s Work
Wherever you go in Indonesia you will inevitably see women performing the majority of the work, whether it be in the fields, on the roads or in construction sites. Whatever happened to equal opportunities!.
Image of the Day: Village House, Central Java
I have a particular fascination for houses and buildings, whether they be elaborate and ostentatious or purely simple constructions. Wherever I am in Indonesia, I enjoy walking around the gangs (alleys) in the villages. Besides meeting some interesting people, you also get a chance to ‘feel’ the village life.
Image of the Day: Plawangan Torgo, Central Java
Plawangan Turgo is a great place for a morning’s hike along the jungle paths and affords excellent views of flora and fauna, especially the mischievous monkeys. Located not far from Kaliurang and at the rear of Telogo Putri, you can combine the whole area in a day’s visit.
Image of the Day: Malioboro Mall, Yogyakarta, Central Java
There are many shopping malls in Yogyakarta city but none that are in the dead centre of town except of course for the Ramai Mall. Malioboro Mall offers everything for all manner of shoppers, and, has some excellent restorans. Opening at 10am and closing at 9pm, it is a hive of activity all the day ad night.
Image of the Day: Telogo Putri, Central Java
When you visit Yogyakarta in Central Java, it is a great idea to go up into the mountains near Gunung Merapi and the area around Kaliurang. The cool and fresh atmosphere is invigorating. Not far from Kaliurang is Telogo Putri. There are markets, a monkey forest, a very cold swimming pool and not far from there, there are excellent views of Gunung Merapi.
Image of the Day: Kaki Lima, Yogyakarta, Central Java
When you are travelling in Indonesia and want to sample authentic Indonesian food, then hit the streets!. By far the best food and cheaper than warungs and restorans.
