mini-thirst-quencher.jpgWhile felling mangroves in coastal areas of East Java, Mochson, 42, the head and coordinator of the Farmers Mangrove Conservation Group in Wonorejo, Rungkut, Surabaya, hit on the idea of using mangroves as an economic commodity without damaging the plants. Felling and pruning damages around 450 hectares of mangroves every year in the Sidoarjo region, according to data from the Forest Regrowth Movement and the plantation section of the agricultural department of the Sidoarjo administration.

Yogyakarta to Build Wildlife Park: Yogyakarta, Central Java

The Yogyakarta administration will turn a 634-ha piece of land in the Bunder area of Gunungkidul district into a wildlife park for research and tourism as well as to increase the local peoples welfare.

HOS Cokroaminoto, specifically the stretch where Hotel Formule-1 is located, is the famous nasi gila — an oily fried rice dish that is a mix of vegetables and meat sold by vendors along that stretch. Other than that, I always tried to avoid it because the traffic was always heavily congested due to disorganized on-street parking according to the Jakarta Post.

It was early morning and the grass was still wet with dew. An elderly man was walking home to his village. The deep wrinkles on his face betrayed his age of almost 72, as he revealed later.
Enthusiastic and agile, the grandfather of 14 was hospitable when he spoke early last month. To reach his house, we had to trek for some five kilometers, including wading across a quickly moving river.

Some 60 nasalis larvatus (with local name bekantan monkey) were found living in group in an untapped forest by researchers from the South Kalimantan-chapter of the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).

Habitat of Endangered Maleo Bird Shrinking: Luwuk, Central Sulawesi

The habitat of the endangered macrocephalon maleo (maleo bird) in Banggai district has been reduced to 625 hectares of the 12,500 ha wildlife reserve set by the Forest Ministry in 1982, an official said.

Plan to Save Sumatran Tigers and Elephants

More than 100 experts and officials met in Indonesia on Wednesday to try to draft an action plan to save Sumatran elephants and tigers threatened with extinction. Satellite images show large areas of lowland tropical forests, the primary habitat for elephants and tigers, have been cleared on Sumatra island mainly due to farming and logging, the WWF conservation group said.
